Outside the Classroom

Today, in my Mathematics class our teacher was teaching us Percentages and, Profit and Loss. To better understand the concept, she had planned an activity for our class. She told us that we can set up food stalls with different and creative recipes and sell the food to other pupils. On that day the canteen won’t work but instead, they will help us in making the recipes. Each group should contain 5-6 members in which, one person is in charge of one role. On the day of the activity, each group should note down their sales, profit and loss. If there is a loss in the business, they have to manage to sell the other items through discounts. I am looking forward to this activity because it’s exciting and innovative, and also are based on two of my favourite things( Food and Mathematics! I seriously love them.)

Our motive behind this project is that every student can get a realistic view of percentages and its applications. Studies should not always be bounded to the classrooms, but should also contain engrossing activities like this, to make the learner more comfortable with the subject. It also encourages a student’s overall development.

I am excited about this activity, and I am feeling like a ‘petit’ businesswoman handling all these things. In this project, my role is in the accounts side ( And I am so happy about it.) and my cronies, will be marketing and selling the eatables. I hope all goes well and our stalls will make a lot of profit.
